I dont with any of the guys also in the gold zone, we all do very different science so working together would be a bit of a stretch. I do sometimes work with other scientists though that arent in my university – they come from Italy, Germany and USA. Sometimes we have some pieces of equipment they need or the knowledge that they want so we work together for a while. Its nice to have a different point of view for a bit.
I work with other people all the time… there are 500 scientists in the buildings where I work and many of them do a lot of work alone. But they all meet in groups at least once a week to discuss things. Then there are people like me who’s job it is to help with certain things… mass spec in my case. So any scientists here that’s interested in doing a mass spec experiment works with me to get it done.
We tend to work with each other a lot! Not with my colleagues in this zone-but you never know-one day we might start a project together!
Scientists all have different expertise and sometimes we ask certain questions and we don’t have the expertise to test those ideas. So we go to other scientist friends and ask them for help 🙂
Like everyone has said, we don’t work together as in everyone here, but I do work with lots of different scientists on my PhD. I have psychologists, neuroscientists, doctors and biologists working with me. Also, they aren’t all from Cardiff (where I work.) I work with people from Bristol and London on my project. It is called ‘collaborating’, it means working together with others. We help each other out really!
