I discovered what a gene does in the fruit fly. It is very important for the cells to stay healthy. When I took that gene away, my cells were not happy at all!!! So, we put it back to the cells and they were happy again!:))

I discovered what are all the proteins on Chromosomes (with my collaborator Shinya Ohta). We purified chromosomes as much as we could and analysed them on the mass spectrometer to see what the proteins are. Then we made genetics changes that cause structural defects in the chromosomes that cause certain types of proteins to fall off… either they fell off because they were connected to the protein our gene encoded, or because they were just sticking randomly on the chromosomes. In this way we could piece together what are the important proteins, and which ones are just there for no reason.

I discovered that galaxies merge together — that is smash together – to become new galaxies during the history of the universe. This is how they form their mass and grow over time.
