Plato. He developed a new way of thinking that is the basis for scientific thought.

Edit… on reflection, I cannot pick one… here are my favourites and why:

      10. Plato – for founding the first school of thought
      9. Charlotte Uhlenbroek – my favourite scientist on TV
      8. Dian Fossey – for her groudbreaking work on mountain gorrillas
      7. Jane Goodall – for her groundbreaking work on chimps
      6. Bill Earnshaw – for discovering how chromosomes segregate
      5. Linus Torvalds – for inventing Linux (my favourite operating system)
      4. Larry Wall – for inventing Perl (my favouritie programing language)
      3. Alan Turing – for the Turing Machine, on which all modern processors are based (and for cracking Enigma, obviously)
      2. Jerry Lawson – for pretty much single handedly inventing the games console as we know it
      1. Sophie Wilson – not only for inventing the Acorn BBC, which is the computers we had in primary school when I was little, but also for designing the instruction set for the ARM processor, which most Android devices run on. <3 <3 <3
