There are two answers to this…

the first is that obesity puts you at risk of many diseases, including diabetes, arthritis, cancer, heart disease

the second is that calorie restriction seems to protect against many diseases… for other reasons that people are still figuring out… so if you’re at the bottom end of a healthy weight range, you’ll live longer.

They don’t always survive longer. It depends how much less they eat!! To survive longer people usually say that eating healthier and a better diet will help. This might not mean that you have to eat less. It might just mean that you have to be aware of what you are eating and make sure it is balanced! If you eat waaaay too much and don’t exercise enough though it could end up in you becoming obese. That can lead to a lot of different problems including type 2 diabetes, heart problems and breathing problems as well as problems with your eyes. This could make your life time shorter but hopefully people can start to eat less and exercise more and it will make them healthier, making their heart work better as it is not under pressure from all the weight and bigger body!
