OHHH. Nice question. SO presumably it is a evolutionary bone structure. We need them now as they allow for muscles in our back and arms to attach to the bone and so we can move our arms about and rotate our shoulders. Maybe in the past we had bigger structures on our backs where our should blades are, but now as time has gone on they are smaller, but there are definitely still needed! They allow our arms to work!!!!

Interesting question! I never wondered why we have shoulder blades.
But here you go. They support our shoulders and joints as well. You can think of them as a solid foundation for our shoulders-to keep them in place 🙂

Ive been told its due to evolution and the need for large anchoring points for the muscles in your arms. If you think about your arm there is anlot of range of motion compared to many other parts of your body so needs a strong place for the mucles to make sure it keeps in place.

As the other said, shoulder blades evolved as a plate for muscle attachment between the shoulder and the rib-cage so that it’s easier to move your arm, and the shoulder is stronger.

The collar bone also helps to strengthen the shoulder
