Well, Hayley is the best person to answer this, but I have heard a bunch of things that can help…

      1) watch your diet and the times you eat. try not to eat too close to bed time. don’t have anything with caffeine after lunchtime (e.g. cola, chocolate)
      2) make a bed-time routine… e.g. have a bath, read a book, snuggle down. Whatever. But doing the same thing every day helps you to associate bedtime with the routine and eventually will help to settle you, ready for bed.
      3) don’t use interactive electrical devices between dinner and bedtime … e.g. phone, xbox, etc. They just wire you up for not-sleeping
      4) try doing for a walk outside in the evening after dinner. Just being outside can help you develop a the mood for sleeping.

… not very scientific, and I’m sure Hayley will have a better answer for this… but all these things have helped me!

My sister used to tell me to think about birds and good things. That still works. Whenever I can’t sleep, I close my eyes and when I am about to say Birds Birds Birds, I can’t even say B and I am gone 🙂 try it-it might work! I always imagine birds on trees…

Also, not having any lights in the room helps.
      No computer fan. definitely no.
Turn all wi-fi off and, a comfy bed is a must.
Having a shower or a bath helps, as well. Put some pyjamas on and once you are in bed, all washed up and dressed in pyjamas, grab a book and read it with a book light. You will most likely not be able finish that page.
You can also try listening to an audio book if you need to listen to something? That’s also helpful. I tried listening to the Harry Potter audio books and never finished them :)-kept falling asleep. Luckily the movies came to the rescue 🙂

Sorry, I felt like giving personal advice not a very scientific one, but Like Jimi said, Hayley can definitely give you some good suggestions.

I can help 🙂 There are lots of different things that you can do and try and help you to sleep. So, depending what the trouble is, if it is getting to sleep then what you can do is try and relax before bedtime. Sometimes taking a bath can help. Changing your behaviour so you are ‘winding down.’ Not doing lots of exciting things, instead sitting and reading. Try not to watch TV right before bed or use your phone or use your laptop. That is quite bad for your sleep. It is because it is a bright blue light. The bedtime routine is a very good thing to do. If you go to sleep every day at the same time this will mean that you are getting into a pattern and your body and brain likes this pattern. It helps us to wind down and make it easier to get off to sleep. Eating is a big one too. It is a good idea to try and eat your dinner around 6 pm and then try and not eat anything after. I know these things seem very hard and sometime it is quite unavoidable, we do them. I do them too sometimes. As long as you keep your bedroom for sleeping and your bed for sleeping it will help. Don’t watch TV in bed or eat in bed. The bed is a comfy palace for sleeping!!!
