When we eat food we digest that food and we use lots and lots of little chemicals to break down the food. When we break down the food little bits of gas are produced. Air also enters into your stomach when we eat too. Inside our stomachs and guts we also have little bacteria which are good bacteria and help us to digest our food. Sometimes they let off gases too. All of this together makes quite a lot of gas, and it needs to go somewhere!!! We can make about 10 litres of gas a day! 1.9 litres of gas comes out as farts a day!

gases are released from your food as it is digests. These travel through you bowel and escape through your bum.

the noise is made in the same way your vocal cords make your voice … air passes through some flappy things and they vibrate…

      Prrrrrp!
