It changes for each person and how old you are. When we are younger and we are babies, we can sleep for up to 18 hours a day! That is a lot! We need this though as our brains are developing! When we are children, 3-5 years old we need a little less sleep but still about 10-13 hours, then above 5 to 13 years about 9 – 11 hours. As we get older, the amount of sleep we need changes, and the average amount of sleep for a human adult is 7-9 hours a day. This decreases as your get older. Ask your parents how long they sleep for, and then your grandparents too! It is different for everyone, and when people have children it changes how long they sleep too. I need 8 hours sleep to be able to function properly the next day! My mum only needs about 5 hours!
