According to doctors now there is one type of autism. There is a term calle ‘autism spectrum disorders’. But within this there are lots and lots of different subtypes of autism. There are some people with ‘Asperger’s’ like symptoms, which means they are very very high functioning and usually very intelligent. They have really special talents like being able to draw a whole town from memory. Some people have more social problems, others have more communication problems. No two people with autism are the same. Everyone is unique in autism and in the general population.

Autism is a spectrum of conditions.. and even if a person is diagnosed with a particular type, it doesn’t mean they are 100% that type.

There are 4 main types of autistic spectrum disorders :

      Asperger’s syndrome
      Autistic disorder.
      Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (Heller’s syndrome)
      Other
