I like all science really, but physics and astronomy are my favourites.

Oh, this is an interesting question. 🙂 Being a biologist/geneticist and currently studying brains, I am quite interested in Behavioural Science. Not just the biological aspects of it but other social aspects as well.

For example, how does one decide to like another one? What are the cues? How do we fear something or how do we remember it and how does this knowledge affect our behaviour in the future and with other people or items etc? The best thing is you can do experiments using fruit flies to tackle some of these questions 🙂 And, see if it applies to humans in any way-cool huh?

Thanks for making the first question a great one 🙂

There are two areas of science I really like… the first is biology. I love it because it’s so complicated, there are no simple rules, and just when you think you’ve got it figured out, everything changes.

But my real love is computing. 😀 Computers have really changed the way we do science, because we can do theoretical experiments in the computer now. Literally none of the experiments I do would be possible without a computer.

The mass spectrometer makes over a million numbers per second, and it would not be possible to handle or understand all that data without computers. But also, computers help us better understand all the crazy biology that happens, and why.

I wrote my first computer program when I was 5 years old, and I loved it. It’s just like playing with Lego… things go together in a certain way, and then you’ve built something! <3

Now this is a good’un. I did a degree in Biochemistry was I am definitely interested and excited by biology and chemistry for sure!! However, my PhD is looking at neuroscience and the science of people and disease, what we call ‘epidemiology’! I get really enthusiastic about studying disease and how different populations of people with genetic diseases change over time.

What I really enjoy is looking at people with genetic diseases change over time? What influences how they change? Is it all to do with their DNA!? Are there additional factors which could cause them to change like there environments. So, it sounds like Omur and I have some overlapping interests here!

So I think overall, I cannot say for sure what category of science, but I am definitely interested in genetics because, what would we be without our own DNA aye’?!

So hard to pick! I have been in nano-science now for a couple of years and love it. Its basically the science of tiny objects that we make that can then be used in electrical circuits in many ways such as switches or storing electricity. I think there is something quite amazing about doing science on a scale where you can no longer see it is what you are doing with a light microscope. We look at science one atom at a time and break it down to how they interact. I think its amazing we can do that if you think the human body is made up of about
      7 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 atoms so we are talking pretty small here!
