When the seed heats up inside, gas is release and the proteins bind together, the whole thing tries to expand like a sponge, but the shell of the seed stop is expanding… until the pressure gets too much and the shell pops, and out somes the spongy protein.
The heat makes the gas heat up and the gas cannot stay there any longer! POP! The corn expands and here it the yummy popcorn. Ask your parents if you can buy some popcorn kernels and try it! It is really fun!

Thanks.
Are there any other type of food seeds pop like popcorn?

many seed pop when you heat them… but corn is the only one I know of that stays in one piece. Most just fly apart, or crack but don’t pop properly.

Oh! Thanks Jimi!!!

what do you mean by spongy protein?
Jimi commented on :
The inside of a seed contains a lot of protein. It becomes spongy because it gets filled with gas.
