1781 was when Uranus was first discovered. It was the first planet to be seen by telescope from Earth. Maybe someone spotted us first though from another galaxy!!

Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars and Venus were first spotted thousands of years ago, without a telescope.

I guess most planets were visible to the eye except Uranus and Neptune and they had to be discovered. But, who discovered the visible ones is not quite known:) I am not sure 🙂 it could be anyone!

No one knows, it happened too long ago. The first planets were found by ancient people who lived over 3000 years ago. The nearby planets are very bright — Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and these move across the sky. They were found by ancient astronomers so long ago that no one knows when or who found them. Many difficult cultures throughout the world discovered these planets.

Now, the first planet to be found beyond the core 5 (Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars) was Uranus. It was found by a man named William Herschel using a telescope he built himself in his back garden in Bath!
