• Question: what will you do if Molecular Beam Epitaxy aka martha was broken?

      This a lot. More then I would hope. So you learn very quickly to fix her- this takes a long time. But was also do a lot of other science. once we have made a sample in Martha it doesn’t stop there. We then have to characterize the sample to make sure we know exactly what we have. Then after this we also have to make tiny wires to the sample and measure it down at -270C and see if these new materials have anything interesting about them. It doesn’t stop if Marthas down. The other thing I love doing is also going into schools and showing young kids what we do through Lego as well, that takes up some of our time 🙂

      That would be upsetting but luckily we have people like Maddison to fix it 🙂

      I’d build it out of valves and transistors… might need a truck to carry your phone around, but hey ho.
