• Question: who is your inspiration

      My inspiration is a lady called Rosalind Franklin. She helped to determine the structure of DNA alongside Francis Crick and James Watson. She never really got any credit for it though. She was a ‘X-ray crystallographer’ which meant she looked at the structure of DNA at a really really really small level using X-rays. She is inspirational most definitely for female scientists! I hope now she would have got a lot more credit for what she did. Unfortunately in the 1950’s, she didn’t.

      The people who really inspire me are my wife and my mum. They’re both just amazing people and I’m lucky to have them in my life. My wife worked on cancer research for ages and my mum is a counsellor.

      My father played a big part on who I am today but then there many more people who inspired me. Teachers, friends, family members, supervisors, famous scientists. It is hard to tease apart who inspired me the most but I have a general enthusiasm for women who became successful despite many difficulties. Just to give a name, Ada Lovelace is one of them 🙂

      My inspiration is my mum. She always told me I could be whatever I want to be as long as I put the time and effort in. Luckily I was actually rather good at science but she was always very supportive. She also taught me that you dont have to choose what you do when you are young. What she liked doing when she was starting out doing jobs is very different to where shes ended up. Change is good but you should always do something you are passionate about.
